The Place: This year, my very sweet boyfriend Rishi took me on a nice surprise dinner at Enoteca. The Italian restaurant is located in Sukhumvit 27 but I think you can also enter from soi 29. The place is small and cozy, the building looks like it could’ve once been a chapel. There’s limited parking but they have a valet guy to help move cars around so driving there is not a problem.
The Grub: We went on V-Day so like practically all restaurants in town, they had a set menu of 5 courses for 2,300 baht per person (not including wine). The amuse bouche was a parmesan puff on a stick with a smallish piece of parma ham wrapped on top. It crunches when you bite into it and tasted nice with the saltiness of the parma ham. The first course was a rock lobster in spicy sauce, with what looks like quail egg. It was tasty and wasn’t too spicy but also lacked a lot of the wow factor usually associated with lobster dishes.
Next up was the Manila Clams Soup- this dish was delicious and although the soup itself wasn’t a huge portion, they were quite generous with the clams.
The third course, Prosecco Risotto with Oyster and Green Apple, was highly anticipated as we both really love risotto (one of our favorite places for this dish is Pomodoro on the 5th floor of Emporium). It was, to say the least, disappointing. The dish was served with a small oyster topped with what tasted like lemon foam. In showing off their molecular gastronomic skills, the restaurant failed to maintain the authentic flavors that make Italian food so appealing. The combination of green apple and the smell of the oyster was not a good combination. To make matters worst, the rice was undercooked, although the chef did kindly mention it was the “Italian” way of eating it, it tasted a bit raw to be considered “al dente”.
If the previous dish was a fail, then the Jindara Black Cod with smoked potatoes and black truffle sauce more than made up for it. It was absolutely to die for. The cod was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy, the potatoes were creamy and delicious just on its own, and the black truffle was divine. I literally scrapped my plate clean.
For dessert, there were two options, one was the Hot Chocolate Foam on Rum Crush Ice and the other was Our Version of Pina Colada. We chose the latter and were definitely not disappointed.
The Drinks: Enoteca has over 300 labels of wine, so you really will be spoilt for choice here. If you’re unsure of what to get, the chef or staff can help recommend bottles to complement the meal.
Overall a great place, despite the risotto disaster, I would definitely go back just to try their regular menu. Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

This is just amazing that u wrote about this place. I have been thinking about giving it a try but i paused when it came with risotto issue. If they could not nail the set menu, I’m curious how they manage to run daily. Anyway, good to know and please keep it coming. Whole city whole country whole region!!!!
Great food just the risotto was a fail LOL but everything else was amazing. the atmosphere is prefect to some time with you love one. The last main dish is mouth melting experience. For those who haven’t tried give it a go. The normal menu is good and lots to choose from. I guess the chef got a bit nervous on Vday. hahaa I love the wine there very good italian collection. One of the largest I have seen for a while in Bangkok.
Enjoy
The cod really was amazing!
I’ve had some good meals here, including risotto, so it sounds like a one-off aberration. Incidentally, the hot chocolate/rum ice you spurned is pretty bloody wonderful. Also try the liquid tortelloni.
Now I really regret not getting the hot chocolate! Will have to go back to try it next time!
i am italian and i hv been to enoteca many times..i know the way they do risotto..it is just perfect crunchy and al dente..
)
and of course the spicy sauce was not so spicy..it is an italian restaurant not thai
Please you can’t compare Enoteca with Pomodoro at emporium or Pan Pan..they are not italian!! but thai-italian.. if they read it they would be very disappointed
it is nice to see a girl with this passion and i support it…just try more restaurants and be open mind
real italian food is not spicy..risotto and pasta are al dente ( asian people might not like it ) ..it is salty or tasty..and the flavours have to bee simple and clear
i suggest you to give a try to a very famous Italian chef coming to town at la scala ( sukhotai hotel ) from march 6 to march 10… is name is Gaetano Trovato… Arnolfo restaurant 2 michelin stars..very good..but not easy
cheers
Hi Gigi! Thanks for your comment, however, although I am well-aware I am not an expert food critic I do know what al dente is. I was born in Italy myself and have spent a few years there. Of course, my tastes may have changed quite a bit due to moving around a lot, but I still know what uncooked pasta tastes like. Of course, it goes without saying that Enoteca is one of the finest Italian restaurants in town and the chef did an excellent job, but it is also a possibility that the Valentine’s day was a bit of a pressure for them and that one risotto dish may have been a bit rushed.
Nevertheless, I appreciate your honesty and pointing out that there are many authentic Italian places that Thai locals may not enjoy. I can relate because there were so many “Thai” restaurants that real Thai people would not touch in New York as well, (or even in Bangkok!)
I will definitely check out Scala and hopefully post about it soon! Thanks for the tip
